The persistent fixation on the search for the "holy grail" in market analysis often appears to be exaggerated. Fibonacci retracements over time and geometric analyses of trendlines tend to be unreliable. A trend remains valid only as long as it is not actually broken – anything else is speculation. In hindsight, patterns and evidence can always be constructed to support seemingly "correct" predictions. However, the reality is that reliable predictions are nearly impossible. When the market eventually turns, there may be a sense of validation, but the number of incorrect assessments made beforehand is not negligible. Such misjudgments have not only cost time and money, but also the trust of many involved parties.
